Donegal Bay Cycling Club’s AGM took place on Friday, 3rd November, in the Bosco Centre, with approximately 30 members in attendance. Before opening the evening’s proceedings Chairperson, Terry McIntyre, asked that a minutes silence be observed in respect of the late Liam Hyland who sadly died this year. Terry then welcomed those present and went on to thank the 2017 committee and club volunteers for all of their hard work throughout the year. Terry also thanked the clubs sponsors and all of our members who represented the club at numerous events across the country. Club Secretary, Paul McGroary, then presented the Secretaries Review of 2017, listing the clubs numerous activities and highlights of the year. These included: Club membership remaining high at 89 members, down two from 2016. Two ‘Soup & Sandwich’ social spins in 2017; Free Turbo-Training classes; Waterbus Bike Week Event; The growth and popularity of the Spring Sportive with nearly 500 participants; The DBCC Summer league and the Ballyshannon ‘Race around the houses’ event; The Boxing day Turkey TT which raised €300 for the Donegal Hospital Patient Care Fund. DBCC members also had a great year and the club was particularly proud that two of its members, brothers Paul & Darragh McCarter, had competed in the 2017 edition of the Ras. In fact the brothers had a fantastic season winning numerous events and titles throughout the year. Aaron McBride attained A1 racing status and also won an event in the Donegal Mountain Bike series. On the negative side Paul identified a couple of issues were the club could do better, namely, youth development and more members taking leadership roles within the club. Treasurer, Sean McGrory, concluded the formal presentations with a breakdown of the clubs finances for 2017, which are in a very healthy position. Sean also thanked the club’s sponsors, namely; Magee’s, Donegal Sports Partnership; Donegal Times; Ballyshannon Credit Union; Tom Dunlevy Texaco; Dom’s Pier One; McIntyre’s Bar; Abbey VS and the DBCC members.
